In the sea of mattresses sold online, Saatva stands apart in fundamental ways. Saatva delivers its mattresses by truck, instead of in the form of a box. And even though, like other sellers on the internet they have progressively expanded its line, Saatva remains focused on offering a variety of “luxury” models, each priced less than it’s Youth model, over $1500 (for the queen size). Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
There’s no doubt that there’s a range of mattresses which are more luxurious than Saatva’s, featuring greater coil counts and more refined materials.
However, we consider Saatva’s mattresses to be among the most beautiful and well-designed options available from an online company.
Over the past 2 years we’ve group-tested our insidespring Saatva Classic, the memory-foam Loom and Leaf, as well as the all-latex Zenhaven, and they’ve consistently placed as one of our top choices in our reviews of the top foam mattresses and the top innerspring mattresses.
We’ve also experienced sleeping on Saatva’s Saatva Latex Hybrid and have studied the construction and components of the rest of the mattresses in the Saatva lineup. The majority of online mattresses are foams or hybrids, so this Saatva Classic stands out. It’s among the few innerspring mattresses that you can buy online.
Pocketed coils give Saatva Classic Saatva Classic a good amount of bounce near the top. The plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s mattresses that are available, the Saatva Classic is delivered by the movers rather than the form of a box. Saatva offers the option of a 180-day trial and easy returns.
The all-foam Loom & Leaf is made with denser memory foam than other under-$1,000 mattresses, so it’s less likely to shrink in time. It’s ideal for those who weigh greater than 200 pounds.
The quilted, thick cover is more cushier and robust than the sock-like covers on most foam mattresses, and that cover makes the memory foam layer beneath feel less soft and squishy.
As you’d expect with an innerspring mattress, the Loom and Leaf is able to limit motion more as compared to an innerspring Saatva Classic. The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex-specifically Talalay latex. It is made of the rubber tree’s milky sap. It is incredibly robust. Talalay is less brittle than Dunlop latex and is usually used in less expensive latex mattresses that we’ve tried.
Zenhaven is a good choice. Zenhaven can be flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, whereas it’s Gentle Firm side feels a little more firm) This could be beneficial if you’re unsure what you prefer or if your preferences change over time.
It’s not a typical cushy mattress, but it has a soft cushion, good edge support, as well as a slight springiness.
Because of its robustness, the Zenhaven will be suitable for people who weigh over 200 pounds. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Saatva’s portfolio of beds-many with a choice of firmness levels and catering to almost every comfort preference-includes:
- Saatva Classic (innerspring)
- Loom & Leaf (all foam)
- Zenhaven (all latex)
- Saatva Latex Hybrid (latex with coils)
- Solaire (a bed with air chambers that can be adjusted)
- Saatva HD (a latex-coil hybrid designed for sleepers who weigh 300 to 500 pounds)
- Saatva Youth (a foam-coil hybrid for kids aged 3 to 12)
We haven’t done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or other “eco-friendly” companies.
We do know that the company makes use of thistle or organic wool to act as a flame-retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) with only organic cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its cover.
Like other online mattress manufacturers, Saatva touts such extras as zones for “optimal spine support”; we’re less impressed with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s customer service that is responsive as well as its long-lasting coils and foams. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Saatva Video Review
Who is it intended forThe Saatva Classic will likely appeal to those who like a soft (but not too billowy) top layer and a sturdy, resilient feel. The Luxury Firm version (Saatva’s “Medium” offering) We tested it, should suit people who are back-, sidestomach and side-sleepers. The more softer Plush Soft version is targeted to those who sleep on their sides, as does the Firm version for stomach and back-sleepers.
How it feels:We tested the Luxury Firm version of the Saatva Classic – the line’s most popular option-and discovered it to be soft on top, with good cushioning and bounce. It begins with a squarely medium-firm feel, but it softens slightly after a break-in period of a few months.
We like:The Saatva Classic is one of the very few innerspring mattresses that can be purchased online without the convenience commonly associated with purchasing the traditional boxed foam mattress. It contains 416 thick, sturdy coils at the base for support, as well as 884 individual, more flexible coils that are stacked over top to provide pressure relief. There’s also a bit of memory foam included in the mix, though the real cushioning comes from the 3-inch polyfoam and fiber Euro top (an additional layer of cushion that is sewn beneath the top). The resultant feel is broad in appeal: it’s a bit bouncy, resilient, and supportive with a softness that isn’t a hefty billowy sensation.
We tested the 14 1/2-inch Saatva Classic in Luxury Firm in a 2021 group test of springs (it’s also available in 11 1/2 inches) It was the top choice, with the second-highest number of top-rated polls (nine among 39 testers) in the category of $1,000 to $2,000 (which includes it alongside the Avocado, the Parachute, and the first-place WinkBed). Five of those nine testers loved the Saatva Classic better than any of the other mattresses on the same test, including those that cost twice as much and two of the nine testers chose the Saatva Classic as their second choice overall.
As for the home test, I looked at it as if I could sleep in this bed every night. I’m not a fan of a bulky bed, so I was pleased its Euro top felt to me like the right amount of cuddle. The bed is bouncy but not so much that my husband’s rolling over woke me up-to me, the buoyed-up feel was worth the price in motion isolation.
Around $1,600 if it’s not on sale (though it is often), the Saatva Classic is the least expensive innerspring mattress we’ve tested that feels substantial and has a touch of luxury. We also like that you can choose between three levels of firmness-Plush soft, luxury firm or Firm. This means you’ll get a perfect fit regardless of which sleeping position you choose to sleep in. Contrary to the more soft WinkBed Another option from the innerspring mattress guide Saatva Classic is Saatva Classic is delivered unboxed by the movers (so that “new scent of the mattress” has already dissipated in the factory and during transport) Also, this “white glove” delivery service is free. The company provides a generous 180-day trial period and an extended warranty of 15 years.
What we don’t like: If you’re not fond of an extremely bouncy mattress or you’re sensitive to your sleeping partner’s movements You probably won’t enjoy Saatva Classic. Saatva Classic. While all the coils on top are wrapped individually the bottom coils aren’t, which means that the mattress has some motion transfer than the other innerspring picks, such as those from the WinkBed. If you don’t like any kind of bounce You’re better off using Saatva’s Loom & Leaf.
Saatva Classic is a great mattress for couples. Saatva Classic also requires a period of time to break in. When we first tested the mattress in 2018 it was medium-firm. one year and a half later, we noticed that it’s softened a small amount but in a nice manner (at least for me). This is not an “Soft” mattress However, those who prefer it might want to try it out. Plush Soft version, which we haven’t yet tried.
While the company claims to have an “active Lumbar Zone” technology to provide “additional back support” my husband (who weighs in the vicinity of 200 pounds) wanted more support when he was in the Luxury Firm. He might have discovered this in the firm version, but we haven’t had the chance to test it at this point, therefore we aren’t able to know for sure. In general, we are not particularly impressed by zones, as people have different heights and shapes, and they might sprawl in a manner that doesn’t conform to the zoning patterns.
The foam densities of the Saatva Classic are less than those of the Loom & Leaf which is the company’s foam-mattress offering. Although representatives of the company would not divulge the details, we were told the density of memory foam weighs at least three pounds for each cubic foot, and the polyfoam density is 1 1/2 pounds per cubic foot.
These aren’t as high as those of the Loom & Leaf, but the specifications are standard for an innerspring mattress, particularly one that’s priced in this range. In contrast to foam mattresses, the steel coils of this mattress provide an additional level of support, and the quilting can help reduce body impressions.
However, as the following Reddit thread suggests, certain sleepers have had more success on their Saatva mattresses over the course of many years than others; we think that this could be due to the sleeper’s size and shape. Like all Euro- or pillow-top mattresses the heavier you weigh the higher the chance of getting imprints and sagging as time passes.
Therefore, you should turn your mattress regularly at least every six months and sleep all over the mattress.
Saatva Classic top owner-review feedback
We could find only 39 owner reviews that are of high-quality (those that didn’t seem untrue or unclear and were published in the past, both in 2019 and 2020). While the sample size is quite small, we believe it’s interesting that more than 30% of positive reviews praised Saatva’s service to customers. That’s a much bigger percentage than we’ve seen for other mattress brands online.
We also observed that six reviewers had mentioned sagging as the cause of their discomfort. One of them was weighing more than 200lbs while the others were lighter or didn’t say. All but one had owned the mattress for more than a year at the time the review was written. This suggests that rotating the mattress is essential; heavier people who like innersprings might want to look at an innerspring mattress that is more durable latex foam, like that of the Charles P. Rogers Estate SE. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Saatva Loom & Leaf
What it’s designed for: All-foam Loom & Leaf appeals to those who like a memory foam that cradles rather than engulfing them in a slow, sinky hug. The more relaxed version may be best for side-sleepers. The Firm version is made for back- or stomach-sleepers. If you weigh over 200 pounds may consider the Firm to be more supportive than the Relaxed Firm.
The way it feels:The Relaxed Firm is an average-firm mattress that supports you without pulling you in; it’s the firm (which we’ve tested only in an actual showroom) is much more firm.
We like: The 12-inch thick Loom & Leaf comes with a durable, quilted, and sturdy cover, similar to the one you’d find on a high-quality innerspring mattress (by contrast, many memory foam mattresses are made of sock-like, thin covers). The cover is made of foam padding, which brings an additional dimension to the usually single-note squishiness that is common to memory-foam mattresses. I slept on the Relaxed Firm at home for more than a week, and I liked that it was cuddly and solid but also firm. The husband of mine, who prefers firm mattresses and weighs just less than 200 pounds, which is 70 pounds more than me-thought the mattress was too soft.
Whereas most online mattresses have a memory-foam density in the 3-pounds-per-cubic-foot range, the Loom & Leaf’s top layer has a 4-pounds-per-cubic-foot density with a gel-infused layer meant to assist with cooling (though cooling features like gel and perforations tend to have minimal impact). The mattress also has a 5-pounds-per-cubic-foot memory-foam layer underneath that top layer. Based on these specs we believe that this mattress will be less likely to slump or form body indentions as opposed to other foam mattresses even for people who weigh over 200 pounds (though maybe not when you weigh more than 250 pounds; check owner-review feedback below). As with any foam mattress, it also offers quality motion isolation.
In 2020, we compared the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm against the Serta iComfort (both are all-foam mattresses that cost more than $1,000), and 20 out of 29 people prefer to the Loom & Leaf. “It was more comfortable” was the most frequent reason; a few said it was less “cushioned.” We examined it in comparison to it against the Casper Wave in 2019 the results were less unified (18 for the Wave sixteen for it; 16 for the Loom & Leaf). People who went with more of the Loom & Leaf preferred its “cushier” or “more conforming” feeling or the feel of its quilting; those who chose more of the Casper Wave described the Wave as having more support , and that the Loom & Leaf as making them feel more “stuck.”
We also appreciate our appreciation that Loom & Leaf, like all of the Saatva Company’s mattresses, is delivered without boxes, by the movers. This means that you don’t need to air it out, like the majority of mattresses that are boxed; off-gassing has likely already occurred within the manufacturing facility.
We don’t love HTML0: We wish Saatva could provide a level of firmness between Firm and Relaxed Firm. The two levels are at a minimum, a few degrees from each other. While the Loom & Leaf has better edge support than other popular online models (such as the Leesa or Casper) Casper), it’s not as durable as a combination (like those like the Leesa Hybrid or Tempur-Adapt).
Despite the Loom & Leave’s cool gel as well as the pin-core (punctured) design that is featured in the top layer, I was able to sleep quite warm on the mattress, which was surprising because I’m usually cold. However, given that it was mid-winter of the winter season, I don’t feel any of it. The tiny holes that are designed for cooling could affect the durability that the foam has, though likely only a little. Because it is the Loom & Leaf has a top layer memory-foam density of four grams per cubic foot it should remain more durable than your typical $1000 or less online foam mattress.
Loom & Leaf top owner-review feedback
We have only found 16 recent, high-quality owner reviews for this model of the Loom & Leaf. Similar to Saatva Classic, as with Saatva Classic, the quality of customer service has stood out among the positive feedback. In the years 2019 and 2020, more reviewers have described their experience with the Loom & Leaf as “too firm” as opposed to “too too soft.” But, it’s hard to make a conclusion about its texture. A lot of reviewers did not specify if they had ordered either the Relaxed Firm or Firm.
Also, we noticed that more seasoned reviewers often review the Loom & Leaf as too soft or even saggy. We found comments on Reddit concerning the Relaxed Firm version sagging for those who weigh around 250 pounds; if this is you, you might consider using the Firm version (though it’s extremely firm) or alternatively, the the Tempur-Adapt (which also features dense foam, but with a distinct memory-foam hug). If you weigh over 200 pounds, you should consider the Zenhaven that is built with more durable latex foam. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Does it merit our recommendation? Yes.
Who is it for: This latex foam Zenhaven should suit people that sleep at any angle, especially those who like a supple cushion without that “sunk-in” sensation. It’s also great for people of all weights that include those who weigh more than 200 pounds.
The way it feels The foam mattress can be flipped and comes with handles to help you easily select between two choices: Its Luxury Plush Side is located on the soft side of the medium-firm range, and it’s good for side-sleepers. This side’s Gentle Firm side offers a slightly firmer feel (the firm claims it’s around 20 percent firmer, which sounds right to us).
We like this: Zenhaven Zenhaven consists of two layers of latex (one that is a zoned one for pressure points and lower back support however this could or may not be helpful according to your body size and the position you sleep on the bed). Latex is a foam made from the milky sap of the rubber tree and it is much better than polyurethane foam or memory foam. Therefore, we believe that this mattress is sturdy for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.
We love that the Zenhaven is made specifically from Talalay latex which is more soft than Dunlop latex typically found in cheaper, stiffer latex mattresses, such as the Sleep On Latex Pure Green. Both the Luxury Plush along with the Gentle Firm sides of the Zenhaven feel springy without being elasticky. The bed as a whole is also more breathable than beds made mostly with Dunlop latex.
I have slept upon the Zenhaven for several months. I personally prefer a more-pillowy feeling (like those of Saatva Classic) however, the Luxury Plush side of the Zenhaven was becoming more appealing to me. After breaking it in for a couple of weeks, I started to appreciate its supple slightly springy surface as well as its cushioned cradle.
My 10-year-old son also likes climbing on it and the Zenhaven’s motion-isolation feature does not stop me from feeling that. However, it’s sufficient that I don’t notice my husband’s movements at night. Its edge support can be better than that of most foam mattresses, and even on the Loom & Leaf.
The husband of my friend, who is less than 200 pounds, and who usually rests with his back on, finds that the Zenhaven as more substantial and attractive than the memory foam Loom & Leaf the Relaxed Soft or the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm.
The Zenhaven is delivered by movers, not shipped in a box, which means there’s less chance to give off that new-mattress smell in your home. It’s possible to switch between the more soft Luxury Plush side as well as gentle firm side Gentle Firm side as your preferences and preferences change, or you just aren’t certain which firmness level you’d like. Due to the weight of the mattress (the queen is 130 pounds), Saatva will send movers to help you with a one-time “courtesy” flip.
We don’t like:Although the Zenhaven has a more-supple feel than many other all-latex mattresses sold online, it’s still less luxurious-feeling than comparable innersprings, and traditional foam mattress since it’s not traditionally “fluffy.” The mere 2 (of 29) staff members who enjoyed it more than other models in our 2020 test of foam and hybrid mattresses said they were pleased its firmness, and that they believed it would last for a long period of time. (In the latex category, most staffers in our blind test preferred the PranaSleep Lotus Asana 6 in Plush, which has a latex-polyurethane-foam construction and costs over $1,000 more than the Zenhaven.)
Because the Zenhaven is extremely heavy and two-sided the bed must be set on a solid, high-quality platform bed or a frame and boxspring that are in good shape. Saatva sells the frame with a boxspring (which is available in two sizes) as well as a frame made of steel.
Zenhaven top reviews of the owner
We were able to find only 18 high-quality owner reviews for Zenhaven. It’s a tiny sample size to provide any definitive, non-subjective conclusion that go beyond the satisfactory customer service. We did however find an extremely descriptive blog post from a long-term owner who was not sure of his weight (though he did claim that his height was 6’4 inches in height).
He claimed that, after a year and an half, he loved its cushion and durability however, as he hadn’t been rotating the mattressregularly, the impression on his hip was evident; when he started rotating the mattress once every six months, he claimed the impression disappeared. We’ll update this section after we’ve gathered more high-quality reviews. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Saatva Latex Hybrid
Who it’s for:The Saatva Latex Hybrid is best suited to those who value durability over extravagantness. It’s ideal for stomach- and back-sleepers and those who toss and turn often. It should hold up well for most people, including those who weigh more than 200 pounds.
What it feels like:This 13-inch hybrid of latex and coil is at the soft end of medium-firm. It’s very buoyant, slightly bouncy, and has some cushioning and hugging. It’s certainly not luxurious, though, and you sleep more in the mattress than within it.
What we love:The Saatva Latex Hybrid is constructed with high-quality materials and construction techniques. The quilted top, made from cotton and wool (a natural flame retardant), is hand-tufted to the layers below it. Tufting (commonly used on upholstery or traditional innerspring mattresses) is a form of stitching with a heavy-duty structure that binds the layers Some argue that it is more durable than glue and also avoids the chemical smell that is often associated with adhesives. These peaks and valleys made by tufting could aid in minimizing any visible body impressions, more so than the sock-covered and smooth-topped mattresses you typically see on hybrids that are sold online.
Although most hybrids use a layer of polyurethane foam on top of coils, the Saatva Latex Hybrid uses 3 inches of Talalay latex foam (which is plenty, in comparison with the pricey Casper Wave, which uses half as much). Latex is more durable and breathable than memory foams, or polyurethane. Talalay latex, also used in Zenhaven, is a more breathable and supple-feeling foam than the Dunlop variety often used in cheaper mattresses made of latex.
Wirecutter’s supervisory Editor Wendy Schley tested the Saatva Latex Hybrid for a few months in her home. She found it strong and supportive. “It is almost buoyant,” she said. “There’s some cushioning to it, but it’s not luxurious in a plush way.” Wendy found that the mattress has a buoyant, springy feel reminiscent of an innerspring. She also did not feel stuck, but the latex foam provided some motion-simplification. The edge support is superb due to the large (13 3/4-gauge) 8-inch coils that run along the edges.
Due to its breathable material (the Talalay latex, cotton cover, and wool layer in the top) as well as the coils that make up this Saatva Latex Hybrid should sleep cooler than all foam mattresses or hybrids made from polyfoams. Wendy is a person who likes to have hot sleep, discovered the Saatva Latex Hybrid to be significantly cooler than other mattresses, although we haven’t yet tested it in the summertime.
We haven’t seen enough quality Saatva Latex Hybrid reviews to glean any trends, but we’ll keep you updated when we can.
We don’t love: Though the coils are wrapped individually however, there’s a bit of motion transfer, due to they’re coils. It’s not as noticeable as motion transfer on the Saatva Classic, but it’s much more prominent than on all-foam options like the Loom & Leaf or Zenhaven.
A queen-size Latex Hybrid contains 789 coils (fewer than the other hybrid mattresses, such as the The Tempur-Adapt as well as the Leesa Hybrid, which have around 1,000). If a mattress is made up of fewer coils, this can mean the mattress won’t conform as well with your physique. But the resilient feel that the layer of latex can make more up for it.
As Wendy discovered that night, as Wendy experienced, the Saatva Latex Hybrid isn’t an Ahhh type of mattress. It feels like it’s lifting you up, rather than nestling you in. The mattress may not provide enough cushioning to give enough pressure relief to side sleepers as well as back-sleepers who require extra cushioning for specific joints.
Wendy who sleeps on her back and side and reported that she occasionally felt sore in her shoulders and lower back when she slept on Saatva Latex Hybrid. If you’re looking for something more comfortable, you may prefer one of the Saatva Classic or the Loom & Leaf (both come in different firmness levels, including ones which feel more soft than the Saatva Latex).
The Latex Hybrid’s tufting is highlighted by attractive yarn tassels. They look lovely, but appear to be flimsy, and one of the tassels that were on the mattress Wendy was testing unraveled after just several weeks. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
Saatva Solaire Adjustable
The Saatva Solaire is an adjustable air bed made of foam placed on the top of air chambers which can be programmed to your preferred firmness level by using an electronic remote. We haven’t yet tried the Solaire yet, but we’ll update this article when we do. While we wait, let us discuss what we know about the Solaire.
Saatva introduced the Solaire in 2019 to compete with Sleep Number’s top-of-the-line i8 mattress. Along with air chambers and an integrated remote, the Solaire is equipped with the option of a pillow top, Talalay the layer of latex, and an infused memory foam layer. It’s also priced at $650 less than the Sleep Number i8.
The remote comes with 50 options in comparison to Sleep Number’s 20 settings, but realistically we’re not sure whether anyone really needs this many. At a glance, the comfort components look like they’d provide a more-curve-conforming cradle than Sleep Number’s polyurethane foam layers.
But, as always we won’t be able to tell what we’re getting until we lay down on the mattress. Solaire’s Talalay latex material suggests longevity, but because Sleep Number does not provide details on its foam materials, we can’t claim that one mattress is more durable than the other.
Whether you choose either a twin or a king or something else, you can order this Solaire with any dimension, as the standard model. If you prefer the queen or king, you can upgrade to the Upper-Flex queen or King, or split king, all of which come with two air chambers, which means that sleepers can choose the firmness level they prefer.
The standard model works on all bed frames (including adjustable bases). However, the Upper-Flex queen, king and the split king options are designed to specifically work on adjustable bases that allow both sides to be adjusted independently.
Saatva Company offers adjustable frames. Saatva Company offers its own adjustable frames, such as Lineal Adjustable Base Standard and the Lineal Adjustable Base Standard and the Lineal Adjustable Base Upper-Flex. With the Upper-Flex frame, couples can utilize a remote to position their shoulders and heads separately (for example, one of them can lay flat and sleep while the other person sits and reads the book).
The Upper-Flex designed for the split king Solaire can also allow both people to raise their lower bodies separately. We didn’t have enough top-quality user reviews to put on this list We’ll revise this guide when we’re in a position to test the bed ourselves and gather additional reviews. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
In May of 2019, Saatva introduced the Saatva HD Hybrid Mattress specifically designed for those who weigh between 300-500 pounds. We haven’t yet tested the mattress yet, but we’re hoping to try it out in the near future.
Like the Saatva Classic and the Loom & Leaf Saatva HD Saatva HD has a pillowy quilted top layer however, the thick underlying foam and coil layers are said to support more weight. We’re especially curious about the pillow top of the HD, since experts have told us that, for people who weigh more the top of pillows could be especially susceptible to indentation.
The HD’s other components, however, seem promising as far as durability is concerned: There is a latex layer, which is typically stronger than memory foam, as well as a memory-foam layer, which has a density of 5 pounds per cubic foot (more than the 4-pounds-per-cubic-foot minimum that experts typically recommend for people who weigh over 200 pounds). Furthermore the HD’s 12 1/2 -gauge coils are thicker than the coils in the other models of the company and the coils in rival models, such as the Big Fig.
Still, these aren’t the only things that impact a mattress’s durability as well as its durability on its own does not make for a desirable mattress. We plan on investigating the issues in a forthcoming guide to mattresses for people who weigh over 200 pounds.Saatva “strongly recommends” that you put this mattress on a sturdy platform bed that has vertical center support.
Otherwise, representatives told us that you must purchase the HD together with its unique “high durabil” timber-slat-based foundation. We also spotted a few user reviews that were positive. When we’ve collected enough information to discern any trends and are able for a mattress test, we’ll send an update. Saatva Vs Winkbed Reddit
The Saatva Youth, the company’s relatively new bed made of coils and foams for children, costs more than some mattresses for adults. But it’s double-sided, featuring a coil layer sandwiched between two layers of foam, so the mattress can be able to grow with the kid.
Its first layer is intended for kids ages 3 through 7 and is comprised of zoned polyfoam with densities that range from 1.4 and 1.8 tons per square foot.
On the second side, designed for kids older than that (the company states that it’s for ages 8 through 12) the density of foam can be as high as 1.5 tons per cubic feet, and is slightly less spongy due to its pairing with the firmer side that’s part of the coil. The 13 3/4 gauge coils range from 330 to the size of a twin, up to 350 in a twin XL, and 462 in the full.
The Saatva Youth is 10 inches thick and bunk-bed-friendly-as long as the bed’s guardrail is at least 5 inches higher than the mattress, for safety reasons. For those who prefer natural materials, might appreciate that the mattress is wrapped in a quilted, thick organic-cotton cover and uses thistle pulp (as opposed to chemical sprays or fiberglass) to act as a flame-resistant. We haven’t tried the mattress as we haven’t found any reviews online. We’re hoping to evaluate it for a future guide to kids’ mattresses.
The Saatva Youth, the company’s relatively innovative coil-and-foam mattress for kids, costs more than some mattresses designed for adults. But it’s double-sided, featuring an inner coil sandwiched between two foam layers which means that the mattress will grow along with a kid.
One side of the mattress is designed for children aged 3 to 7, and it is made up of zoned polyfoam with densities that range between 1.4 up to 1.8 tons per square foot.
On the other side, designed for kids older than that (the company says ages 8 through 12) the density of foam ranges from 1.5 pounds per cubic foot. It’s also a bit softer because it’s paired with the firmer part of the coil. The 13 3/4-gauge coils vary from 330 in a twin up to 350 for a twin-XL. They also go up to 462 in a full.
The Saatva Youth is 10 inches thick and bunk-bed-friendly-as long as the bed’s guardrail is at least 5 inches higher than the mattress, for safety reasons.
